Products Do Not Define Companies

“Products should reinforce, not define, the identity of a company.”

-Simon Sinek

A great quote from SS and a good reminder for all of my product-focused friends out there.

Netflix wants to “entertain the world.”

At first they were the DVD subscription by mail service. Then they were known for online streaming. Now they’re a content/media creation powerhouse.

These product innovations continue to reinforce their identity as an entertainment company.

Google wants to “organize the world’s information and make it accessible and useful.”

They’re also trying to “make life easier” with their products.

Search is arguably their best known product, but Google is known for so much more than search (gmail, calendar, hangouts, photos, Pixel, Chrome, play, Android OS, and much, much more.
